An Overview of Jacob's Walk of Life 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, Sunday, 25 July 2010 - A crowd of more than 8,000 Malaysians from all walks of life, race, religion and culture turned up at the Forest Research institute Malaysia (FRIM) in Kepong on Sunday in show of support for a healthier 1Malaysia.

The eager crowd arrived as early as 6am to queue up at the registration counter to collect their Jacob's Walk of Life T-shirt and goodie bags. The Jacob's Walk of Life 2010 marks the fourth consecutive year for the highly successful healthy lifestyle campaign organized by Jacob's since 2007 with co-sponsors Anlene, Fitness First, Mizuno, Spritzer and Zespri Kiwi.

Supported by the Ministry of Health, this on-going community health campaign running on this year's theme of "1Malaysia Sihat" aimed at inspiring and motivating Malaysians to take an active step towards a healthier lifestyle by aligning with the Ministry's vision for a nation working together towards better health.

Present to officiate the walk was guest of honour, Deputy Health Minister, Yang Berhormat Datuk Rosnah Haji Abdul Rashid Shirlin accompanied by General Manager of Kraft Foods Malaysia & Singapore, Dieter Schulz with long time Jacob's Ambassadors and popular radio DJs, known as the JCrew Fara Fauzana, Faizal Ismail from HotFM and Gan Mei Yan, Jack Lam Tuck Weng from MyFM who led participants during the 5km walk.

Speaking to the crowd before the flag off, Datuk Rosnah applauded Jacob's consistent effort in supporting the Ministry's vision of a healthier 1Malaysia.

She said, "I am especially proud and happy that companies like Jacob's continue to support the government's efforts by organizing a campaign such as this to meet the Ministry's objective by aligning with the Ministry of Health's mission of a "Gaya Hidup Sihat 1Malaysia". However, the vision of a "1Malaysia Sihat" can only be achieved if each of us took the responsibility to care for our own health".

"The Ministry, on the other hand, will continue to encourage citizens to live healthy through the dissemination of health information and knowledge to help them make smarter and better decisions for their health" she added.

Speaking on behalf of the organizers, Mr. Schulz added that as part of Jacob's commitment towards the nation's health, the company will continue to maintain its efforts to produce high quality and healthier products while continuing to be actively involved in local communities - through education and empowering Malaysians with the knowledge and means to enjoying healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Schulz said "Jacob's Walk of Life gives Malaysians a platform they can actively participate and engage in together with their friends, family and neighbours to walk towards a healthier life from one step at a time. Health, as we know, cannot be accomplished overnight but rather an accumulation of the everyday simple choices we make - beginning from the everyday simple choices you make, such as reading food labels, choosing healthier food options, or simply walking together as a family. The simple choice you have made today by participating in this walk will ultimately make a lot of difference in your journey towards health. As they say in the popular Malay proverb, "Sedikit-sedikit, lama-lama jadi bukit".

Apart from the 5 kilometer walk, patrons also enjoyed an array of on-going booth activities from co-sponsors such as free health check by Selangor State Health Department, free bone health check by Anlene, children's face painting, balloon sculptures, and children's inflatable at Kids Funzone and special performances by popular local artist, Black and One Nation Emcee entertained the crowd with their music.

Special games and activities were lined up for this year's event such as the "1Malaysia Dress Up competition" where patrons were encouraged to come dressed in their JWOL T-shirt by creatively injecting 1Malaysia touch to their outfits and get themselves spotted by the JCrews. A total of 5 winners were selected based on their creativity and 1Malaysia spirit walked away with RM300 worth of cash vouchers and Jacob's hamper worth RM100.

Participants who completed the walk were presented with a certificate of participation and goodie bag courtesy of Jacob's and all campaign sponsors.
